Anita Khodaverdian was born in Australia and studied ballet and contemporary dance with the Lynn Boyter Ballet Academy from the age of 5. In 2000, she joined ASDC with her sister Ramona as a senior dancer under the direction of Armenian choreographers Albert Kiziryan and Jasmine Avetisyan.
In 2003, the ASDC Board invited Anita to join the Company as an instructor and choreographer. Anita accepted the role and took responsibility for the 16+ girls’ group, with her teaching style being influenced by traditional Armenian as well as other dance genres. As her teaching experience grew Anita extended her responsibility to include the 6-8 and 13-15 groups in 2007 and 2008.
In addition to the ASDC annual concerts, a highlight of Anita’s contribution to ASDC was when she joined the 18+ group to Armenia in 2008 as one of the choreographers for their performance at the Yerevan Opera House. She currently instructs the 7-10 Ryde as well as the Senior groups. When asked on her thoughts over the last ten years with ASDC, Anita said “For the past 10 years I have been part of ASDC which is not only a dance group but a family. A family of dedicated board members, dancers, instructors and parents’ committees, who share this amazing dance experience with the Armenian community. We must embrace and continually support the dance group as the youth of today will forever cherish the memories and friendships they have been able to create, as I have, being part of the ASDC journey.”
