Colette Mardirossian began her studies of Armenian dance at the age of 3. Having experienced Armenian and other genres of dance, Colette chose to focus her studies in the Armenian tradition. Her love for dance at this very young age was passed on to her by her mother.
Colette first began to dance with the Nairi Dance Group in 1993 and later joined the ASDC when it was formed in 2000. Colette has been taught and mentored by a number of instructors from the ASDC, including Albert Kiziryan, Jasmine Avetisyan, Salvi Markarian and Anita Khodaverdian. A great inspiration to Colette was also meeting the legendary Vanoush Khanamiryan, when she joined the Ensemble on their trip to Armenia in 2008.
In 2009, Colette was invited to join the ASDC as an instructor/choreographer for the 4-6 Years Group. Colette feels very privileged to have responsibility for the younger dancers, hoping to foster their love for Armenian dance. Colette added “I feel privileged not only as a dancer but also as an instructor, as I hope to pass my love and passion for our cultural dance to the students. Dance is such an important part of our culture and the ASDC, along with its instructors, encourages our culture through this beautiful art form”.
